Ffarwel i'r Bardd (Farewell to the Bard) refers to the tragic loss of the poet Hedd Wyn. From the score:

"Ellis Humphrey Evans ('Hedd Wyn') won the chief bardic prize at the Welsh National Eisteddfod held at Birkenhead

in 1917. After his nom-de-plume was called, it was announced that the bard had died at the age of 29 in the Pilkem Ridge

battle on July 31, and the bardic chair was draped in black."

The lyrics come from R. Williams Parry's Englynion, written in memory of the bard, and are here arranged for unaccompanied male voice choir (TTBB), with a tenor solo for the first two stanzas.
